Making a paper drawing into a crisp digital illustration or bright printed page without losing the hand rendered character.

This has now changed from tedious challenge to an extension of the drawing process. Thanks to the teaching of Mark Hoyle in his archaeological illustration workshop ‘From Drawing Board to Publication’. The techniques and tips learnt are working well for more contemporary subjects and settings too. Tested out with natural history ‘save the species’ dip-pen, brush and ink illustrations currently ‘on the drawing board’.

I recommend the archaeological illustration workshops at Vindolanda Trust. Courses take place in the apt context of the Roman Fort and active excavation site.
